It is very difficult to measure exactly how many calories are burned during exercise as there are many factors to consider. Your body weight, the intensity of the workout, how fit you are and your natural metabolism will all effect the total.

However it is possible to give an approximate figure based on intensity and body weight.

The chart below, based on three different body weights, gives you a guide of the number of calories you can expect to burn in 1 hour while using various types of exercise equipment.

Even if the calorie burn is not exactly correct for your circumstances what the chart does do is give you a clear comparison of what different types of equipment and the intensity you use it can achieve.
