A study of 13,535 women in their 50’s who regularly walked as part of an exercise routine where found to be healthier in their 70’s than those that were more sedentary.
Brigham Women’s Hospital, who conducted the study, didn’t just look at those with heart disease or those that had had a heart attack, they also looked at other conditions including kidney disease, Parkinson’s disease, pulmonary disease, diabetes and cognitive function.
The results were surprising. The women who took walking as an exercise and walked at a brisk pace of around 3mph were 90 percent more likely to be free from all these conditions compared to those that walked in a more leisurely way.
